Illal Mountain is located in Illal meadows nearby Jim Kelly Peak and Coquihalla Mountain. Illal Mountain is a straightforward class 2 hike. The summit provides panoramic views of many nearby peaks. The tarn below Illal Mountain is a great spot to camp or have lunch as part of a day hike.

The Hike

Our hike began in Illal meadows. To reach the trail head and the meadows, please refer to my post about Coquihalla Mountain Traverse. https://www.mountainnotebook.ca/post/coquihalla-mountain-traverse

Following the trail to Jim Kelly Peak, the trail to Illal Meadows splits to the right. Following this trail, we enjoyed the gently rolling terrain of the meadows.

As we hiked along the trail, it eventually splits to the right. There is a small cairn that marks the trail to the summit of Illal Mountain.

Following the trail to Illal Mountain is easy and very straightforward.

Walking over some rocky patches.

Illal Mountain provides a fantastic view of Coquihalla Mountain.

Final Thoughts

Illal Mountain is a worthwhile destination for the views of the surrounding mountains. The tarn below Illal Mountain is a great spot to camp or enjoy lunch.
