Bow Glacier Falls are located in Banff National Park. Emerging as melt-water from the Wapta Icefield, Bow Glacier Falls is the birth of the Bow River. The Bow Glacier Falls hike provides a hands-on experience with the source of water for many people. It highlights the importance of wilderness.

The Hike
To reach the trail-head, we drove along the Icefields Parkway until we got to the turnoff for Bow Lake. It is well signed. From the parking lot for Bow Lake, we walked around Bow Lake (right side of picture below). Winding along the short of Bow Lake, the trail is mostly flat to the cliffs below the glacier in the distance.

Before starting the hike, it was worthwhile exploring the shores of Bow Lake. The views are beautiful!

After walking along the shoreline of Bow Lake, we crossed some rocky flats. Then, we ascended a set of stairs (picture below).

We walked past a boulder that forms a natural bridge across the canyon. To reach Bow Glacier Falls, we continued onward without crossing the boulder.

After passing the boulder bridge or chock-stone, we continued across rocky ground toward the falls in the distance.

Once at the falls, there are plenty of spots to climb a little further up. We could feel the mist of the water. With the wind coming off the glacier, it can be a few degrees cooler. Quite nice in the summer months.

Final Thoughts
The hike to Bow Glacier Falls is a wonderful destination for anyone. Everywhere along the trail, there are amazing views of the surrounding mountains. The trail is quite popular so it is best to arrive early to ensure you have a parking spot.
